The Lakeshore Collection: Test Run by FireHorse Designs

I've been working on an SR for two plus years now for The Lakeshore Collection and, due to various issues with my kiln and my health, I have only now gotten the tests back to Lakeshore and these test runs are being offered for sale through The Lakeshore Collection. Here is what Cindy Neuhaus has written about them:

"ACCEPTING OFFERS—TEST APPALOOSA HARRIS MARSHALLS BY FARRENS!

By Cheryl Farrens of FireHorse Designs, I’m accepting offers at cneuhaus@charter.net this Friday, June 11, noon CST, on 4 one-of-a-kind test pieces for a potential Special Run of Appaloosa racing champion and legend, I Love Willie. This would have been the first time in Lakeshore history that a special run would have been done as a portrait of a real horse, and the first time that I’m aware of in “clinkydom” that an Appaloosa would have been produced with denim marks.

It was those famous, and hideously difficult to do on a “china” (now we know why there aren’t others, lol!), denim marks that proved a challenge, compounded by the fact that I Love Willie’s coat changed drastically in appearance over his lifetime, hence the 4 attempts.

See them here: http://s203.photobucket.com/albums/aa316/lakeshorecindy/

So difficult was it to get it JUST right, that during the time Cheryl was finishing, Willie’s owner, Victoria Ennis, passed away. Cheryl tried contacting the estate and family but never heard back. Since all we had legally were emails going between the 3 of us that we had permission to use his likeness, we decided to scrap the idea of a portrait model, so “I Love Willie” will not be produced, but we’ve not ruled out a run of a different design.

Cheryl signed each on its belly with test number, “C Farrens”, and test date, and also initialed and numbered each on a hoof bottom with the test number. They will also come with signed documentation from me attesting to the authenticity and telling the story of these very special test pieces.

They will be sold on a best offer/reserve basis. Descriptions and minimum suggested offers for each are:

Test #1: Tri-eyes, white sclera, mottled privates, nose, inner ears. Striped hooves w/ghost ermine spots; lightning marks. Done w/mottled overglazes, does not have smooth texture, are there are some small popped glaze bubbles; fingerprints, particularly on the offside. He has a cool leathery look in person. Minimum suggested offer $50.

Test #2: Bi eyes w/mottling, mottling also on privates, nose and inner ears, pink shading on nose and around eyes, very pale creamy ghost white blaze, striped hooves, lightning marks, halo spots. Mottled glaze roaning, delicate and very nice w/darker shading above front legs/chest, on head and upper neck, and lighter and creamy pale body shading, too! I love the effect on the blanket—very natural and realistic looking. Satiny mottled roaning, the piece is somewhat textured, but much less than #1. I love this piece and the look of it! Minimum suggested offer $150

Test #3: Gorgeous matte that would have been the prototype for the production version! Tri-eyes w/mottling and pale pink at eyes, nose and privates. Air erased WAY COOL denim marks, black spots are shiny/satiny and some have hair detail! Striped hooves, lightning marks, shaded mane and tail. Minimum suggested Offer $200

Test #4: Gorgeous glossy! Bi-eyes, mottling w/pale pink at eyes, nose, inner ears, privates. Awesome air-erased way-cool denim marks (2 in front read almost as diagonal strips) and mane and tail shading. Striped hooves w/lightning marks. Glossy black spots over clear glaze, some of which bubbled a little. Minimum suggested Offer $225

RULES/IMPORTANT!!!! PLEASE READ! Payment (check only to me, sorry no PayPal or CC’s) due by June 21 or piece may be sold without warning to 2nd highest offer. Postage and mandatory insurance will be added to your successful high offer and must be paid by buyer. You may give me a “bid up to” amount that I will increase by $5 increments if/when needed and notify you—I keep these confidential and DO NOT disclose. I plan to be around Friday AM, but since my schedule is VERY erratic this week and that could change last-minute and there are chances it could take me 24 hours or more to reply during the week, I STRONLY ENCOURAGE you to give me a “bid up to” and I’m not responsible if your offer, chance to increase the offer, or increased offer doesn’t make it by noon CST this Friday. All other normal terms apply. "
