

With the economy taking a nosedive recently, the number of requests for rescue placement or permanent sanctuary for horses has been going up. It seems no matter how many you find good homes for, there are twice that many waiting for help. I'm lucky in that I live in a county that counts horses towards the livestock exemption on property taxes, so it allows me to help out in a modest fashion.
The two appys pictured were owned by a loving lady who can't afford to keep them and help her mother who has Alzheimers. They are sweet geldings but have some soundness issues that would keep them from being placed readily as riding horses. I'm glad they can call my place home and not have to worry about the future. And I'm glad I have the support of my husband in my rescue efforts.
Whatever you can do, whether it's to adopt a rescue animal or donate to your favorite charity, I encourage you to do so. When the economy goes south, God's four-footed creatures get hit hard too.
