Initial Blog post for FireHorse Designs!

Wow, time passes quickly. When I set up my blog page back at the end of July I had no idea it would be the end of August before I came back to it.
As many of my friends and customers know, my 34 year old mare, Cherokee, passed away on August 4, 2007. It has taken these four weeks to come to terms with her being gone, and to be willing to think about working again.
So I started firing again last week and went to a model horse show in College Station, TX, with some of my custom glaze and cold painted pieces, even though they weren't completely finished. I was thrilled when two of my best pieces (and the ones I've spent the most time on) garnered a first and a second in big workmanship divisions. While I love glazing and painting for its own sake, it's also a real ego and economic boost to have my pieces be competitive in the model show circuit.
So now I'm working on getting ready for NEIBITS, my appaloosa benefit rescue show, on Sept 22, and am firing an Otto and an Okie Rio to china paint. I also have an order of Karen Gerhardt's stunning Arabian porcelain tiles coming to china paint for Christmas orders!
I hope to update my blog with my thoughts on my art, my appaloosas, and life, at least twice a month. Thanks for stopping by!
